Dressed Like Kings :: 6 Things I Never Told You
DRESSED LIKE KINGS
Dressed Like Kings is a feature length documentary that follows the lives of five Zulu men who compete in a fashion competition like no other, 'oswenka' which means to swank. Set in Johannesburg and Durban, South Africa, Dressed Like Kings uncovers a fifty-year old tradition that was birthed in the hostels during Apartheid. Every Saturday night this select group of men get dressed to the nines and compete for bragging rights and the weekly title of 'Best Dressed.'
The clips introduces our four or the five subjects in various arenas: in their homes, as they prepare for a swanking competition; par-oozing through one of their favorite suit shops; sharing the stage with their wife who also swanks and lastly Jeppes Hostel swanking before a crowd of anxious onlookers.
Dressed Like Kings documents the challenges and dreams of these men who are heads of households and work at low paying jobs as mechanics and fork-lifters. Throughout we will witness the profound effect the suit has and why it is considered a symbol of hope to the men and all with whom they come in contact.
