6 THINGS I NEVER TOLD YOU
In the Summer of 2005, six award-winning NYU Alums of the Graduate Film Program (Ed Durante, Rod Gailes O.B.C., Caran Hartsfield, Stacey L. Holman, Cinque Northern and James Richards) came together and formed the collective, 6 Leagues, a New York based, underground film collective.
Committed to the notion of collaboration and exploration, they created: 6 Things I Never Told You , a feature film anthology of cinematic snapshots examining committed romantic relationships in flux. Each segment stakes out a significant landmark in the time line of relationships renewed, dominated, lost and longing for one thing: Control.
For David, Thing One - Surrender, his marriage of less than two years is ending, and he can't understand why. Already served with divorce papers, David tries to reconcile with his wife Evelyn who is showing no interest in making nice.
In Thing Two - The Cable Box, Sheila is much in need of a date with her workaholic husband. When he cancels yet another special evening, Sheila releases her imagination on a handsome cable guy who is in the right place at the right time. Will the cat catch the mouse?
Black Republican - Thing Three , begs the question, "Is Republicanism the ultimate S&M fantasy for a Black man in America?" Our Ivy League educated fetishist examines his deepest need to be dominated under the influence of his best friend’s girl, his sister, and yet another woman.
Thing Four - More Recently Trained . Heather is cheating on Spike, her blind fiancée, with his best friend, Earl, one week before their wedding. Spike’s random acts of kindness makes her wonder, ”Does he know or doesn't he?” Earl couldn’t care less, until he tastes something funny in a nicely prepared pre-wedding dinner. Will Heather confess before it’s too late?
The woman in apartment 3B has unusual plans in King - Thing Five, when she opens the door to find a man fifty years her junior: Not what she ordered. This surprise birthday arrival forces our couple into a role play of lust, emotional need, and sexual domination.
In 8 months, Sarah will have a baby. She wonders, “Am I in this alone.” David wants to know if he can do this at all. In Thing Six - Another Country,' love is redeemed.
Together they have explored all manner of political, cultural, and sexual material. All grown up now, what do they have to say about the most controversial topic of our time: LOVE?
